About Us

Jeff began his career at Sun City Palm Desert in 1992 and is a graduate of the Golf Management

Program from College of the Desert.  He started in the cart barn and quickly worked his way up to

Director of Golf Operations learning the Del Webb/Sun City philosophy while running a 36-hole golf

facility. He was also active in the local PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association of America) and was a

Board Member for the local Chapter.

In October of 2004, Jeff made the move from one desert to another and joined the team at Sun City

Grand as the Director of Golf Operations.  This included oversight of all aspects of golf

including the agronomical side of the business as well as food and beverage outlets at the courses to

include; 3 snack bars, beverage cart service and the community’s Café from 2012 – 2020.

Jeff’s team consists of approximately 150 employees and is accountable for an 8-million-dollar budget.

Jeff and his professional team have done a tremendous amount of work over the past 16 years

upgrading the golf courses.  They work with other industry professionals to ensure our courses and

golf practices remain relevant.

Over the years all four of the courses have been recognized for various awards including three of the

four courses in 2020 being in the top 20 for Golfers’ Choice to play in Arizona by Golf Advisor.

Jeff is a Class A Member of the PGA of America as well as a Class A Superintendent Member of the

GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendent Association of America).

So, what does someone in Jeff’s position actually do?  Below is a summary from the PGA/GCSAA’s

definition of what his role is…

Class A PGA Golf Professional

  • Per the PGA’s definition of a PGA Professional, he/she fulfills one or more of the following roles (the list is not exhaustive):
    • A qualified teacher and coach who understands a wide range of issues relating to the coaching process, including the biomechanics of the golf swing, psychology, fitness and nutrition
    • A knowledgeable retailer, able to understand not only selling techniques but also issues such as marketing and customer service
    • A customer advisor who recommends the best products for their customers’ needs
    • A skilled business person who can satisfy the requirements of both the customer and the supplier
    • A skilled club fitter who builds, repairs and customizes golf equipment
    • A manager of services, products, facilities and people
    • An IT-literate individual
    • A tournament organizer, course planner and referee
    • A good player

Class A Superintendent Member of the GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendents Assoc of America)

  • Per GCSAA’s definition Class A status is obtained
    • through a combination of formal education, experience as a golf course superintendent,
    • continuing education, and
    • providing proof of a valid pesticide license or passing the GCSAA IPM Exam.
  • Class A membership demonstrates
    • personal commitment to lifelong learning,
    • environmental stewardship, and
    • elevating the golf course management profession

Jeff recently found out from another colleague that there are only about 17 other Professionals in the country that have both of these classifications (Class A GCSAA Superintendent Member and Class A PGA Golf Professional) and they are unofficially recognized as Super-Pros.

Jeff has not stopped there.  He continues to seek out opportunities to further his education and is now a Specialized PGA Golf Professional in Teaching & Coaching (currently only 100 in the country) and also Specialized in Executive Management.  Jeff just recently became the 1st PGA Golf Professional to successfully pass the UNLV (University of Las Vegas) Executive Management program, as he is currently working on obtaining his Certified credentials.  As of 4/1/21 Jeff has successfully become a Certified Professional.  Currently there are only 10 Certified Professionals in Executive Management.

Jeff’s passion and love for the game drive him to strive for excellence as he continues to grow the game he loves – golf.
